BETHELL, Wash.-Privately held Point.com, a Web site for consumers looking to compare and purchase wireless phones, service plans and accessories, has apparently gone out of business.
The company’s main phone number and the number for its spokesperson have been disconnected, and printed media reports state that Point.com shut down. However, the bankruptcy court for the western district of Washington, which covers the company’s headquarters, said no company under the name Point.com had filed for bankruptcy as of Friday.
According to Point.com’s Web site, the company was founded in October 1995 and last year employed more than 100 people in its headquarters near Seattle. The company said it helped nearly 5 million consumers by providing the most effective means for comparing and buying wireless phones, service plans and accessories. It was a well-known site the wireless industry, and even scored $15 million in financing from Motorola Inc.
