WOODBURY, N.Y.-Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology Inc., has been authorized by the Ministry of Information and Industry to sell voice mail and short message service technologies to service providers in China.
Six Chinese mobile operators including Guangdong Mobile, Shanghai Mobile, Liaoning Mobile, Hei Longjiang Mobile, Wuhan Mobile and Shanghai Unicom, have already deployed the Comverse Intelligent Short Message Service Center (ISMSC) and have officially launched SMS to customers.
“MII authorization is a major milestone and positions Comverse for significant growth with the rapid expansion of China’s mobile subscriber base,” said Zeev Bregman, chief executive officer of Comverse. The company has been operating in China since 1993 and has several offices there.
In other news, Comverse said its Multimedia Messaging Services and wireless instant messaging will be used by Spanish wireless operator Xfera.
Comverse’s MMS, which runs on GPRS and UMTS networks, allows mobile users to exchange multimedia messages via Web-enabled handsets and personal digital assistants. The company’s instant messaging offering enables the creation of mobile communities among mobile users and Internet users.
