LOS ANGELES-Advanced Communication Technologies Inc. introduced its SpectruCell software- defined radio multiple protocol mobile wireless network base station operating platform, which it said provides a definitive solution to the 3G spectrum allocation issues that are creating controversy among U.S. regulators and operators.
According to the company, the SpectruCell base station can dynamically reconfigure a mobile network according to call load via its proprietary SDR technology, thus removing one of the key impediments facing 3G network rollouts in the United States and Europe.
Paul Staugaitis, ACT’s radio-frequency team leader, explained: “In this way an operator could support both cdma2000 and GSM in their existing 2G spectrum, with SpectruCell offering the potential to reconfigure the network in real time to suit call load from cdma2000 for GSM users.”
ACT said it has been approached by several well-known telecommunications companies in Europe and the United States to co-develop 3G applications and equipment with the SpectruCell software, which will be available to third-party and industry developers in July.
