Microcell Connexions completes GPRS implementation ahead of schedule

MONTREAL-Microcell PCS announced that Microcell Connexions Inc. has completed implementation its 2.5-G General Packet Radio Service wireless data on its network across Canada, one month ahead of schedule.

According to the company, the network covers most of the Canadian population, and will benefit users of the Microcell network as they travel throughout North America.

“We have been successful in our carrier interoperability testing with GPRS with VoiceStream Wireless,” Alex Brisbourne, vice president and general manager of business development for Microcell Connexions, said. “Now, this means that Canadians travelling to over 4,000 cities in North America can have the benefit of data connectivity without the hassles of calling cards and special cables.”

Brisbourne also said the new GPRS network will benefit customers because it will allow them to pay for the services they use, not for where they use them.
