LAS VEGAS-Certicom, which provides mobile e-business security, will provide mobile-phone manufacturer Sendo with WTLS Plus, a technology that will secure Sendo’s new lightweight, Internet-enabled WAP mobile phones.
“Certicom’s leadership in WAP and wireless security enables Sendo to provide our customers globally with strong security from a name that is recognized internationally,” said Hugh Brogan, chief executive officer of Sendo. “Certicom’s experience in developing highly efficient products that fit within the constraints and complexities of mobile devices lead to a sure fit for our WAP phones.”
As part of their agreement, Sendo will also use Certicom’s Elliptic Curve Cryptography technology and will include support for Certicom’s MobileTrust digital certificates in its WAP mobile-phone security architecture. According to Sendo, supporting MobileTrust will provide secure WAP transactions and lead Sendo toward wireless public key infrastructure.
Sendo’s new line of WAP phones, including the A820, which it said is the world’s smallest and lightest WAP-enabled GSM phone, were developed specifically for the European and Asian markets.
