VANCOUVER, British Columbia-Sierra Wireless and Telus Mobility will partner to develop a next-generation CDMA Type II PC card for use in laptops and handheld devices.
According to the companies, the new card will provide voice and data communications up to 144 kilobits per second, a 10-fold increase from CDMA PC cards that are currently available.
“This next-generation PC card will allow Telus Mobility to deliver superior solutions to our customers as we evolve our network to third-generation wireless technology,” said Scott McArthur, director of technology development at Telus Mobility. “An increase in the data rate by up to 10-fold will significantly increase the value of the wireless Internet and wireless connectivity to corporate databases, Intranets and multimedia applications.”
