Motorola creates Global Telecom Solutions unit

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-In a move designed to give its customers a higher level of focus, resources and services, Motorola Inc. created the Global Telecom Solutions Sector, which includes employees from the former Network Solutions Sector and the former Global Telecom Solutions Group.

Motorola said the newly created GTSS, led by the Telecom Carrier Solutions Group, will take the strength of the two former organizations in order to provide a total solution to network operator customers and potential customers.

“The revolution to bring the Internet to wireless is unfolding exactly as Motorola anticipated in 1998 when it created the Communications Enterprise,” said Merle Gilmore, executive vice president of Motorola. “As key business opportunities emerge worldwide, such as third-generation wireless technology, it is critical that Motorola evolve to serve its customers and deliver the end-to-end solutions they are seeking.”

Within GTSS, the TCSG will act as the go-to-market organization facilitating the partner technologies. The Office of Strategy will develop the strategic direction for GTSS, particularly in 3G solutions, wireless Internet Protocol networks, investments and alliances.

Bo Hedfors, executive vice president at Motorola, was named president of GTSS, with Motorola Senior Vice President Gene Delaney named general manager of TCSG and Motorola Senior Vice President Adrian Nemcek named general manager of OoS.
