RESTON, Va.-Motient Corp. signed an agreement with General Electric Co. to provide circuit switched satellite data communications services to GE’s transportation business operations, GE Transportation Systems.
Motient said the satellite circuit will link GE’s locomotive monitoring system to network control centers and to GE’s technology service center allowing real-time assessment of locomotive operating conditions before they impact locomotive performance.
“While some of the challenges are different from one industry to another, the basics are the same when using our satellite network to monitor either trucking or locomotive performance,” explained Walter Purnell, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Motient. “It is an exciting opportunity to be a key link in GE Transportation Systems’ first real-time maintenance monitoring network.”
