Modeo to manage DVB-H broadcasts using Penthera

PITTSBURGH—Penthera Technologies Inc., a software provider for mobile broadcast TV and multimedia, announced the launch of its Penthera Broadcast Center 1.0, a carrier-grade mobile broadcast control and data system designed to support advertising, branding and metering.

Though terms were not disclosed, the company said it has already scored a contract to supply Modeo L.L.C. with its new application in Modeo’s network operations center near Pittsburgh. Modeo launched in January and is the DVB-H mobile TV subsidiary of Crown Castle International Inc. Modeo plans to use CCI’s network for towers and dedicated spectrum to compete with Aloha Partners L.P. subsidiary Hiwire and Qualcomm Inc.’s MediaFlo. Modeo has said it plans to launch commercial DVB-H services in up to 30 U.S. markets by next year, and that a network in New York City will be up and running sometime this year.

“Modeo is developing a world-class, mobile broadcast service that seeks to create unique value for content providers, operators, MVNOs and retailers who want to address the million of U.S. mobile device users.” stated Michael Schueppert, president of Modeo. “Modeo selected Penthera since they are executing on their vision to create high quality, revenue-generating mobile broadcast services. Their multi-function software provides more than just program scheduling data and access for users of our mobile broadcast services. Penthera’s solution also offers us flexibility and access to a wide range of creative applications for unique, branded revenue opportunities such as interactive advertising, televoting and eCommerce.”
