Aether Technologies announced it is joining BellSouth Wireless Data L.P. and Research in
Motion Ltd. to bring financial market data via wirelessly connected handheld and laptop computers to the Atlanta, Los
Angeles and New Orleans markets.
Datalink.net announced it can allow companies to extend Web-based
information to wireless devices using its patented XpressLink Web-to-Wireless technology. XpressLink can filter and
extract information from existing Web pages and format it for wireless transmission and use on mobile phones, pagers
or personal digital assistants, the company said.
Electric Fuel Corp.’s Consumer Battery Division received orders for
10,000 batteries, valued at approximately $200,000, to be delivered during the second quarter. Tessco Technologies
Inc. ordered 6,500 Zinc-Air cellular phone disposable batteries for its Wireless Solutions program, and InTouch USA
ordered 3,500 batteries to be sold on the Internet, said Electric Fuel.
HighwayMaster Communications Inc. said it
extended its original one-year contract with member companies of SBC Communications Inc. to three years. The
contract calls for HighwayMaster to install an additional 3,140 of its intelligent mobile units beyond the 11,500 units it
already was contracted originally. The company said it also will provide proprietary software and services to
SBC.
PCS.partners announced it signed a three-year contract with WirelessNorth under which PCS.partners will
provide warranty and post-warranty repair and refurbishment services for WirelessNorth’s Code Division Multiple
Access mobile phones.
RF Micro Devices Inc. said its board of directors approved a two-for-one stock split.
Shareholders of record on March 17 will be issued a certificate representing one additional share of stock for each
common share of stock held on the record date. Upon completion of the split, the company said it will have
approximately 39.3 million shares outstanding.
L.A. Cellular began operating under the AT&T Wireless Services
Inc. brand name, after AT&T Wireless assumed day-to-day management responsibility for the market. RCR reported
AT&T Wireless’ plans in November. Los Angeles customers will be able to sign up for AT&T Wireless’ Digital One
Rate service.
