IN-TOUCH WINS DIRECTEL BUSINESS

NEW YORK-Directel, a new, Dallas-based paging carrier doing business in Argentina and Brazil, has selected and installed a new billing and management system provided by In-Touch Management Systems Inc., Melville, N.Y.

Besides billing, the In-Touch II system will handle functions for Directel including inventory, accounts receivable and switch-terminal interface.

“In Argentina, for instance, most people pay their bills at the bank and don’t like to mail checks,” said John Tetelman, Directel’s vice president of finance. “In-Touch helped create a unique interface between our accounting software, In-Touch II and various banks (so that) billing information is fed back directly to the system … a tremendous time saver [that] substantially reduces our labor costs.”

In-Touch also is developing an interface that will allow Directel customers to pay bills by credit card.

Directel, a privately held company established last year, uses Glenayre Technologies Inc. paging terminals to dispatch alphanumeric and numeric pages in Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires. The carrier plans to establish paging operations in Chile and to expand into other Latin American markets.
