U.S. CELLULAR TO USE NORTEL’S TDMA

DALLAS-United States Cellular Corp. selected Northern Telecom Inc. to build new Code Division Multiple Access and Time Division Multiple Access networks in its markets, said Nortel.

Milwaukee will be the first market to be implemented, with commercial service scheduled to be available later this year, said the company. The network will use TDMA technology.

U.S. Cellular currently offers CDMA service in Knoxville, Tenn., and Yakima, Wash. Digital technology decisions for other cities will be made on a market-by-market basis, said the company.
