NEW YORK-World Access Inc., Atlanta, reported sales for the fourth quarter, ended Dec. 31, were $21.3 million, a 45-percent increase from the last quarter of 1996.
Net income per share declined by 1 cent to 14 cents per share on a diluted basis compared with the fourth quarter of 1996. The company said this reflected recording of income-tax expenses at full rates during the latest completed quarter, as opposed to 10 percent in 1996. Additionally, the number of stock shares outstanding for the last quarter rose by 2.5 million, or 15 percent, from the comparable period a year earlier.
World Access posted sales of nearly $93 million during 1997, an 82-percent increase from 1996. For the full year, the company reported net income of 70 cents per share on a diluted basis, up from 46 cents during 1996.
“Of the $42 million increase in total sales, approximately $28.2 million was contributed by the company’s two business acquisitions this year,” Steven A. Odum, chairman and chief executive officer, said.
