Transcrypt International Inc. named Craig Huffaker senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer. Huffaker’s 20 years of financial management experience include 12 years as CFO for publicly traded companies. Huffaker, a certified public accountant, most recently was CFO of TIE Communications.

CellStar

CellStar Corp. announced Timothy L. Maretti is its new senior vice president and U.S. region president. He has been with the company since 1992, serving in a variety of international roles including in the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America and most recently Mexico and Brazil. Maretti’s 15 years of experience in the wireless industry include positions with Motorola Inc. and Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems.

CellStar also announced A.S. Horng was named chairman of its wholly owned subsidiaries, CellStar (Asia) Corp. Ltd. and CellStar Telecommunications Taiwan Co. Ltd. Horng was elected to the board of directors of each of these corporations. He will be responsible for all of CellStar’s growing Greater China Region operations, including Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. Horng has been in charge of company operations in these areas since their inception. Horng, who also serves as chief executive officer and president of CellStar International Corp./Asia, joined CellStar in 1993 as a 50-percent joint venture partner in CellStar (Asia) in June 1995. Prior to joining the company, he served as president of C-Mart USA Corp., which distributes and manufactures aftermarket cellular phone accessory products.

Hutton Communications

Hutton Communications Inc. appointed several general managers in its branch sales and warehouse facilities in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas and Harrisburg, Pa. Tim Link, formerly of U.S. Communications, was named the Atlanta general manager. Rob Schulze, a former manager with Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Corp., was named general manager of the Chicago branch. Bob Treanor joins the company as the Dallas general manager after working as director of wireless cable products at Amphenol Corp. Brian Miller, a regional manager for American Paging Inc., has been named the general manager of the Harrisburg branch.

BellSouth Mobility

BellSouth Mobility named P. Heath Holmes a senior sales representative. Holmes has more than 11 years experience in outside sales, including five years with GTE Wireless.

FWT

Lloyd Bordon is the new northwest sales representative for FWT Inc., a wireless communications infrastructure products company. He will be responsible for sales in FWT’s eight-state northwest region, which includes Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. Bordon also will represent Vancouver. Prior to joining the company, Bordon was sales manager for ABB CEAG Power Supplies. He also has held positions with Communication Power Solutions, Telecom Marketing and Power Product Services and EF&I services.

Cellcom

Cellcom named Mike Watermolen alternate telecommunications regulatory analysis coordinator, responsible for contractual arrangements with other telecommunications companies and overall regulatory compliance. Prior to joining the company, Watermolen worked for Cellulink as a market analyst developing rate plans, tracking market data results and promotional activities and procedures. He also worked for Schneider Communications as an access service analyst, where he worked to reduce telecommunications network costs.

Motorola Canada

Motorola Canada Ltd. appointed Micheline Bouchard vice president of Motorola Inc. and president and chief executive officer of Motorola Canada. Bouchard joins Motorola from Hewlett-Packard Ltd. (Canada) where she was vice president of business development. She has served as president of the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers and the Order of Engineers in Quebec.

Geoworks

David A. Thatcher was promoted from vice president and chief financial officer to president of Geoworks Corp. Thatcher, who joined the company last year, will continue in his CFO responsibilities. He also was named a director of the company. Previously, Thatcher was CFO and vice president of finance and administration at Diba Inc., a software provider for consumer electronics manufacturers. Before that, he held a similar position at the McKinley Group Inc., an Internet service provider.

WinStar Communications

Marc Destree was appointed vice president and managing director of Europe for WinStar Communications Inc. Destree’s initial focus will be gaining WinStar a share of the radio spectrum becoming available in Europe, said the company. The 25-year telecommunications industry veteran most recently directed the establishment of MFS’ business in Europe. During his four-year tenure at MFS-Worldcom, Destree headed construction of the first competitive long-distance, cross-border network to link city fiber-optic networks in Germany, France, the Netherlands and Belgium, as well as the development of major switching hubs in key European cities.

QualComm

Qualcomm Inc. announced the promotions of Steve Altman to executive vice president and general counsel and Chief Financial Officer Anthony Thornley to executive vice president. Altman joined Qualcomm in 1989 as corporate counsel and became general manager of the company’s Technology Transfer and Strategic Alliance Division. Prior to joining Qualcomm, Altman was a business lawyer specializing in intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, securities and general corporate matters. Thornley has extensive background in finance and business development with more than 27 years of financial and information systems management experience. He joined the company in 1994 as vice president and CFO.

Cellular One

Cellular One named Cindie Steese, a corporate account executive, top sales representative for the company’s mid-Atlantic east region. Steese was presented with the award for excellent numbers of cellular phone activations and total sales revenue. Cellular One Mid-Atlantic East is owned and operated by Vanguard Cellular Systems Inc.

ARCHITEL SYSTEMS

Architel Systems Corp. announced that former president and chief executive officer of Bell Canada John McLennan has been named to its board of directors. Prior to his appointment at Bell Canada in January of 1994, McLennan was president of Bell Ontario, a division of Bell Canada that provided telecom services in Ontario. He also served as president and chief executive officer of BCE Mobile Communications Inc., where he was also chairman of the board. McLennan additionally founded his own firm, Jenmark Consulting Inc., specializing in telecommunications.

ARCH COMMUNICATIONS

Arch Communications Group Inc. announced it appointed J. Roy Pottle executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective Feb. 17. He joins Arch from Jones Intercable Inc., where he was vice president and treasurer since 1994. Previously, he worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in a variety of senior management positions in Canada and the United States.

BELLSOUTH CELLULAR

BellSouth Cellular Corp. announced Mark Feidler was appointed president of BellSouth Mobility Inc., replacing Odie Donald, who was promoted to group president of customer operations at BellSouth Telecommunications. Feilder joined BellSouth in 1991 as director of strategic transactions. He was promoted to vice president of corporate development for BellSouth Corp. in 1993 and was named president of interconnection services in 1996.

BellSouth Cellular Corp. named Ed Reynolds president of American Cellular Communications Corp. He replaces Robert Frame, who is now president of BellSouth Entertainment Inc. Reynolds was BellSouth Cellular’s executive vice president, responsible for engineering and operations, sales and marketing, finance, information technologies and corporate affairs. Reynolds previously served as president of BellSouth Wireless Inc.

AIRADIGM COMMUNICATIONS

Airadigm Communic
ations Inc. announced it hired Lynn Stinski as sales director and Karen Lee as product manager. Stinski will be responsible For the leadership, development and overall management of the company’s Einsein PCS sales force including direct sales, retail sales and outside distribution. She previously was vice president of sales and marketing with Nelson Marketing and district manager at Cellulink. Lee will oversee market share growth for Airadigm’s business and residential product portfolio. She will create pricing strategies and monitor product planning. Lee previously handled market technology development and training for PC Experience Computer Center in Green Bay, Wis.

ALLEN TELECOM

Allen Telecom Inc. named Piero Villa president of its Worldwide Site Products Division, a newly created division that combines manufacturing and engineering capabilities of Forem S.r.l. in Milan, Italy, and Allen Telecom’s former Site Products division in Cleveland, Ohio, and Sparks, Nev. Villa is the former president of Forem S.r.l. and will be responsible for capitalizing on the engineering expertise and manufacturing capabilities of the three site products development locations.

PHOENIX WIRELESS GROUP

Phoenix Wireless Group Inc. has appointed Michael J. Boyle president and chief executive officer. Boyle comes to Phoenix Wireless from Fujitsu Business Communications Systems in Anaheim, Calif., where he was senior vice president. Prior to Fujitsu he was the president and CEO of the Bell+Howard Document Management division of Bell+Howard Corp.

METWAVE COMMUNICATIONS

Metawave Communications Corp. announced that Richard Henderson has joined the company as vice president of sales and marketing. Henderson will oversee the international sales and marketing efforts for the company’s spectrum management systems used by wireless operators in improve network capacity, coverage and call quality. Previously, Henderson was vice president of marketing operations in Northern Telecom Inc.’s cellular group.
