RUSSIA’S KUBTELECOM TO USE CDMA WLL

SAN DIEGO-Kubtelecom of Krasnodar, Russian Federation, awarded Qualcomm Inc. a $10 million contract to supply an 800 MHz Code Division Multiple Access wireless local loop system in the Krasnodar region, Qualcomm announced. Deployment of the cdmaOne WLL system is expected to begin in February, with commercial operation scheduled for the second quarter.

“There is very high demand for telephones in Krasnodar krai, with a waiting list of more than 250,000,” said Leonid Laskavy, first deputy general director at Kubanelectrosviaz, the parent company of the newly formed Kubtelecom.
