Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) last week asked Attorney General Janet Reno to consider for approval a site collocation data clearinghouse developed by the Personal Communications Industry Association.
“It is my understanding,” said McCain, “that the proposal-which would reduce the barriers to new competitive entry by wireless carriers-is aimed at addressing local concerns, while at the same time protecting against any inappropriate sharing of information or other antitrust concerns,” said McCain.
McCain told Reno local authorities are reluctant to approve antenna siting applications until wireless carriers have exhausted collocation opportunities.
