MONTREAL-Bell Canada International Inc. announced that its consortium Shandong Bell launched cellular service in Weifang, a city in the Chinese province of Shandong with a population of 5 million.
The new service builds on the November launch in the city of Jinan, the capital of Shandong province. Bell Canada expects to launch similar services this month in the neighboring city of Zibo.
Bell Canada holds a 39.8-percent effective voting interest in Shandong Bell, with affiliates of American International Group Inc., an international insurance company, holding 38.2 percent and Hehua Electronic Information Group Co. holding the remaining 22 percent.
