NORCROSS, Ga.-USCI Inc. reported a net loss of $5.3 million for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, despite increased revenues and performance by its wholly owned subsidiary, Ameritel Communications Inc., which more than doubled its cellular subscriber base during the quarter.
The loss compares with a net loss of $1.9 million during the 1996 third quarter.
Total revenue for the 1997 third quarter reached $1.6 million, a 33-percent increase from 1996 third quarter earnings of $1.2 million. Total sales for the first three quarters of 1997 were $4.9 million, a one-third increase compared with $3.7 million during the first three quarters of 1996.
Ameritel’s subscriber base increased from 4,000 to 8,500 at the end of the third quarter. Ameritel also added another 16,500 cellular subscribers during the first 40 days of the fourth quarter beginning Oct. 1, more than double the number acquired during the first nine months of the year.
