H. FARINON TO EQUIP BELLSOUTH IN BRAZIL

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.-Harris Corp.’s Farinon Division announced it signed an exclusive contract with BCP SA and BSE SA, led by BellSouth Corp. and the Safra Group respectively, to design and install a microwave radio system for a the first all-digital cellular network in Brazil. The BellSouth consortium recently won a license in Brazil.

The network will encompass Sao Paulo and a six-state region in northeast Brazil, a combined population of 44 million. The contract’s estimated worth is $80 million, said the Farinon Division.

The company said it would provide radios in the 7 GHz to 38 GHz bands and products able to transport 2 megabits to 34 megabits of data asynchronously, and 155 megabits using SDH.
