AT&T, SCC PACT COULD SPUR E911

BOULDER, Colo.-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. said it has entered final negotiations with SCC Communications Corp., which would make SCC the primary vendor to deploy enhanced 911 services in AT&T’s wireless systems nationwide.

Cellular carriers must provide E911 technology by April 1, according to a mandate issued by the Federal Communications Commission. E911 will provide emergency communications personnel with the cellular phone’s number and the location of the cell site from which it is transmitting.

AT&T and SCC are cooperating in an effort to include sectorized antenna locations that will provide operators with increased precision in locating calls, said the companies.

SCC said it has begun performing initial technical and operational analyses of AT&T’s coverage area.
