DENVER-U S West Communications Group awarded a contract it values at $500 million to Lucent Technologies Inc. for Code Division Multiple Access equipment and products for its personal communications services markets. U S West said the multi-year agreement could reach $1 billion as the network is built out.
Lucent agreed to provide its 5ESS switching systems, base stations and service circuit nodes as well as software to build, maintain and monitor the networks. The agreement also includes a possible purchase by U S West Communications of fixed wireless local loop capabilities from Lucent.
“The fixed wireless capabilities of our product will provide U S West Communications with a wide range of tools to package powerful new customer offerings,” said Gary Moran, regional vice president of Lucent Technologies.
