LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Cellular Telephone Co. introduced SmartDigital service using Time Division Multiple Access Interim Standard 136 technology.
SmartDigital provides customers with telephone, answering machine and short messaging capability. As part of the launch, LA Cellular is offering customers a rate plan with no charge for the first incoming minute. Phones will be available from manufacturers including Nokia Corp. and L.M. Ericsson.
SmartDigital is available on 95 percent of LA Cellular’s cell sites, the company said. The company offers calling in Los Angeles, Orange County and most rural portions of Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
