The increased integration of software continues to be a cost-saving option for wireless telecommunications providers looking to squeeze revenues from networks that are powered by multi-billion-dollar hardware solutions. This has led to an increase in virtualization activity and the use of cloud and managed services.
One player looking to increase options for wireless carriers is Cisco, which recently unveiled a mobile-specific version of its Prime Carrier Management platform. The company described the offering as a way for carriers to get a handle on “lifecycle management of evolved programmable networks and services,” designed to work across multi-vendor network deployments.
RCR Wireless News spoke with Sukesh Garg, director, product management of Cisco’s Cloud and Virtualization Group, about the latest update to its Prime Carrier Management platform and how the company worked with Polish operator Exatel on deploying the service.
