PriCellular Corp. announced its board of directors voted a five for four common stock split in the form of a 25 percent stock dividend payable March 28 to shareholders of record on March 13. PriCellular said the stock dividend is not taxable and will not change the value of the stock holdings of existing shareholders.
Sinclair Technologies Inc. announced the opening of its Dallas/Fort Worth office facility. Sales Engineer Bill Busby will head the Sinclair team, the company said. The office will cover Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, western Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Mexico, Sinclair said.
Boston Communications Group and Voice Systems Technology Inc. agreed to a merger. VST will become an operating division of BCG. BCG said it is a supplier of roamer call processing services, customer care services and prepaid call processing to the wireless industry, and provides services to more than 1,100 wireless markets in North America. VST supplies voice-processing platforms to the telecommunications and wireless industry, with more than 300 systems installed worldwide, BCG said.
Harris Corp.’s Farinon Division signed a three-year contract to provide United States Cellular Corp. with microwave radio equipment. The contract calls for Harris to be a primary supplier of microwave radio equipment to U.S. Cellular. Harris said it has supplied microwave equipment to U.S. Cellular for the last six years.
Cellular Technical Services Co. Inc. and AirTouch Communications Inc. said they have signed a five-year contract under which CTS will be the exclusive provider of cellular fraud prevention systems using radio frequency technology to AirTouch and its affiliates. Under the agreement, AirTouch will begin installing CTS’ Blackbird Platform and PreTect fraud prevention software application in both its Atlanta and Los Angeles markets.
Aethos Communications Systems announced the sale of its radio engineering system, Odyssey, to American Portable Telecom Inc. Aethos said APT engineers are using Odyssey to design and build personal communications services 1900 networks in the major trading areas of Columbus, Ohio, Houston, Kansas City, Mo., Minneapolis-St. Paul, Pittsburgh and Tampa-St. Petersburg-Orlando, Fla.
Hughes Network Systems Inc. and BellSouth Cellular Corp. announced that BellSouth Mobility Inc., a subsidiary of BellSouth Cellular, has moved Alabama’s commercial cellular traffic to Hughes’ GMH 2000 system. Hughes now has installed cellular systems in more than 40 BellSouth Cellular markets, the company said. Hughes said the new system supports the existing analog system in Alabama and will provide an easy migration path to digital.
