COMPANIES CREATE INTERFACE STANDARDS FOR GSM SERVICES

PLEASONTON, Calif.-Several carriers and manufacturers have joined forces to create application program interface standards for personal communications services networks that use Global System for Mobile communications technology.

The companies are Pacific Bell Mobile Services, Ericsson Inc., Nokia Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., IBM Corp. and BellSouth Personal Communications Inc. They want customers on PCS 1900 networks to have a consistent means of wireless access to faxes, text messages and data services.

The companies said they plan to publish their recommendations before the expected production of PCS 1900 services in mid-1996.
