Reflection Technology Inc. has opened two new sales offices in San Jose, Calif., and Sciota, Pa., to accommodate the increasing demand for FaxView personal fax readers, the company said. The offices will position the company for national market distribution of FaxView, a small, portable fax machine that allows users to receive, read, store and send faxed information.
BellSouth Mobility Inc. and MobiLink announced the launch of their new Home Customer Care feature throughout Florida. The companies said the feature is designed to provide cellular users with consistent service quality while traveling. Users who have Home Customer Care can dial a customer service number to be connected to their home carrier for trouble-shooting and problem solving when traveling in another carrier’s market. Services provided through BellSouth Mobility and other MobiLink carriers currently reach more than 4,900 cities across North America, the companies said.
A coalition of industry organizations, led by the Industrial Telecommunications Association and the Personal Communications Industry Association, has advised the Federal Communications Commission to consolidate the current Private Land Mobile Radio Service structure into two pools: public service and public safety. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the Newspaper Association of America and the Telephone Maintenance Frequency Advisory Committee joined ITA and PCIA in filing the joint comments with the FCC on Nov. 20, in response to the FCC’s request for an industry consensus on radio service consolidation as part of the refarming proceeding.
Motorola Inc.’s Advanced Messaging Systems Division announced it will supply its ReFLEX two-way paging technology and global positioning system receiver to Prince and SkyTel, the manufacturers of The AutoLink System. The system, which is an automobile safety, security and communications system, will offer features such as automatic emergency road assistance, remote vehicle unlocking, vehicle tracking and two-way personal paging using the ReFLEX technology.
Geotek Communications Inc. said it has activated its Miami network, the company’s fourth digital communications network in the United States. Geotek also announced that its Philadelphia network is scheduled to begin commercial operation by year’s end. The company said the networks will provide integrated voice and data communications services to small and medium businesses. Commercial service in South Florida is expected to begin during the first quarter of 1996.
Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile said it has activated a commercial cellular digital packet data system, called AirBridge Packet, in Boston. Hughes Network Systems Inc. supplied the network infrastructure equipment and a turnkey installation, including mobile database stations that were deployed 21 days from first order to commercial service. With the addition of Boston, Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile said it now offers CDPD service in all of its regions.
