Nokia to include Quickoffice in handsets

DALLAS-Nokia Corp. will include software from Quickoffice Inc. in its Series 60 platform for smart phones, a move that will give its Series 60 users the ability to view and manipulate Word, Excel and PowerPoint files.

“We are committed to providing users of smart phones with the best available software innovations as part of our platform offering,” said Matti Vanska, director of Nokia’s mobile software sales and marketing. “The Quickoffice software suite, with its leadership and innovation, meets these criteria.”

Quickoffice software allows Series 60 users to open, view, edit and print Microsoft Corp. Office documents-such as contracts, business plans or sales presentations-directly from their phones.

Quickoffice’s software was previously available as a third-party download to Series 60 users. Through Nokia’s agreement with the company, Nokia can preinstall the software in its devices.
