ESPOO, Finland-Nokia Corp. has won a contract to supply a W-CDMA network and network management solution to 3 Ireland, which launched its third-generation network in late July in Ireland.
The deal marks a new country entry for Nokia with the Hutchison Whampoa Group Ltd., which has about 8 million customers worldwide and holds 3G licenses in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. 3 Ireland offers national coverage through a nationwide roaming agreement with Vodafone Ireland on its GSM network.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The contract represents Nokia’s 50th W-CDMA contract, the Finnish vendor said.
