SAN ANTONIO-ATX Technologies Inc. selected AT&T Wireless Services Inc.’s Wireless Data Division to provide the wireless communications for its OnGuard product.
OnGuard uses wireless communications and Global Positioning System technology to provide vehicle tracking and directional assistance, the company said. New OnGuard products will use AT&T Wireless Services’ network to provide communications between the vehicle’s driver and the OnGuard Response Center.
“We have been able to miniaturize the wireless communication system and embed the technology in our unit to eliminate the need for a separate car phone,” said Steve Riebel, president and chief executive officer of ATX Technologies. “This is technology driven by customer demand for an economical alternative for data transfers to and from the OnGuard Response Center.
