Customers of two-way paging devices using WolfeTech Corp.’s PocketGenie software now will have access to the information services provided by InfoSpace, according to a strategic partnership announced between the two. Motorola Inc.’s PageWriter 2000 and Research In Motion’s Inter@ctive Pager both use the PocketGenie software, which provides the ability to access Internet content. Information available through InfoSpace includes telephone yellow and white pages, e-mail directories, directions, and stock quotes.

MobileMedia Corp. announced a distribution agreement with Fry’s Electronics to be the retail chain’s exclusive paging equipment and services provider. Fry’s Electronics, a large West Coast electronics goods chain, and MobileMedia signed a one-year renewable contract. Shipping will begin this month,.

Digital Microwave Corp. announced it received an order from Sprint Spectrum L.P. to supply digital microwave radios in the 10 GHz and 18 GHz frequency bands. The company values the arrangement at $2.8 million. The equipment will be used in Sprint PCS’ personal communications services network in the Detroit metropolitan area. The microwave radios will provide interconnection between network base stations and the switching office, said the companies. Deliveries are set to be completed by next spring.

Spectrian announced it received two new contracts from Northern Telecom Inc. to develop and deliver next-generation Code Division Multiple Access single-channel power amplifiers. The units are to be used in Nortel’s CDMA base stations and will address the 800 MHz cellular and 1900 MHz personal communications services markets. Spectrian designs and manufactures power amplifiers for microcell and macrocell base stations for cellular, PCS and wireless local loop networks.

Omnipoint Communications Services Inc. said it added its 80,000th customer at the end of the third quarter. The personal communications services carrier said it added 38,000 net new subscribers during the quarter, representing a 90-percent increase in aggregate subscribers and a 40-percent increase in subscriber additions compared with second quarter results. “Our customer acquisitions exceeded what most industry analysts predicted for the third quarter,” said Omnipoint spokesman Brad Sparks.

Telex Communications Inc.’s Wireless Products Group announced a five-year contract with Qualcomm Inc. to manufacture and supply antenna products for Qualcomm’s Globalstar User Terminals. Under the agreement, Telex will produce fixed, mobile and portable antenna products, as the Globalstar system will incorporate handheld, vehicle-mounted and fixed telephone devices. The Telex Wireless Communications Group designs and manufactures wireless communications products for wireless local loop, personal communications services, cellular, satellite and military applications.
