TELUS TO USE NORTEL CDMA IN ALBERTA

CALGARY, Alberta, Canada-Telus Mobility-a subsidiary of Canada’s Telus Corp.-announced plans to expand its cellular, paging and private radio systems business by offering advanced digital personal communications services in Alberta sometime next year.

The Calgary-based company said it will use a cdmaOne Code Division Multiple Access technology for both 800 MHz and 1900 MHz networks with equipment and services provided by Northern Telecom Inc., valued at $30 million for the first year.

The network will overlay the existing Nortel Advanced Mobile Phone Services network and will include a Nortel DMS-MTX SuperNode switching system, according to Telus executives.
