REDWOOD CITY, Calif.-Phone.com Inc. gained ground in Japan recently, having signed agreements to incorporate its UP.Link Server Suite in wireless networks there.
Two Japanese cellular carriers, DDI Corp. and IDO Corp., launched wireless Internet access services based on the technology, the company said. DDI’s service is called EZweb and IDO’s is branded EZaccess.
In related news, Itochu Techno-Science Corp. agreed to resell the UP.Link Server Suite and its software development kit. According to the agreement, Itochu will provide network operators with localized installation, developer training, marketing, sales and technical support for the wireless Internet platform.
Earlier, handset manufacturer Hitachi Ltd. licensed the UP.Browser microbrowser, which allows handsets to access the services made available by the UP.Link suite.
