LONDON-The mobile commerce market could reach $200 billion by 2004, according to a study released by Strategy Analytics.
The report predicts an explosion in demand for mobile commerce services during the next five years with technology enabling high-speed wireless networks to provide applications for electronic ticketing and vending-machine payments.
“There are few industry developments that have the potential to change forever the way that consumers behave,” said Declan Lonergan, director of wireless services for Strategy Analytics in Europe. “Mobile commerce, however, is one of them. In the next few years, when the few remaining technology barriers have been removed, we will see wireless handsets used widely to do everything from buying train and cinema tickets to shopping for goods and services on the Internet.”
