NEW YORK-Telet, a Brazilian cellular operator, partnered with StarMedia Network Inc., an Internet company for Spanish-and Portuguese-speaking markets, to bring wireless Internet to Telet’s subscribers. Claro On-line, the new service, will provide Telet’s customers with messaging, e-mail and news services, StarMedia said.
Telet holds a B-band license in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and operates a Time Division Multiple Access network.
The new service will offer subscribers e-mail and customized content, such as arts and entertainment, finance and horoscopes, provided by StarMedia. Users can select their content at www.claroonline.com.br.
StarMedia said it has similar agreements with three other Brazilian cellular operators, including Telemig Celular in Minas Gerais, Amazonia Celular in five northern states and ATL in Rio de Janeiro and Espirito Santo states. StarMedia also recently announced an exclusive partnership with EverSystems, a Latin American provider of electronic banking solutions, to bring mobile banking to Latin America.
StarMedia said the Claro On-line service will be available free to all prepaid customers until May 15.
