NORTHBROOK, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s Integrated Electronics Systems sector, OnStar and Saturn Electronics & Engineering announced they have joined to develop and manufacture telematics devices for General Motors Corp.
Under terms of the agreement, the companies said they hope to offer advanced wireless products on virtually every GM car and truck beginning in model year 2001.
The telematics devices will be based on the Motorola telematics platform, which uses global positioning system satellite technology and wireless communications. OnStar will link drivers to a call center to provide navigation and emergency assistance and Saturn will manufacture certain components for Motorola, the companies said.
