According to the company, the new site, www.mobile4mobile.com, was designed to cover the needs of those involved in the mobile communications industry. Mobile e-business security provider Certicom Corp. unveiled its virtual private network handheld client specifically built for mobile and wireless devices. The company said the new VPN uses the Internet as the transport backbone to establish secure links with a mobile workforce while extending communications to regional and isolated offices. Certicom is targeting interoperability with VPN products from a variety of providers to allow secure communications and enable network administrators to extend their corporate intranets to their mobile professional work force worldwide. Vyyo Inc. launched its Local Multipoint Distribution System Lite, providing broadband Internet access to small office/home office and residential markets. The Internet Protocol-based product incorporates the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications equipment modem platform, increasing the flexibility of LMDS networks. The system is less costly than traditional LMDS equipment designed for large business and enterprise customers, according to Vyyo. In addition, LMDS Lite provides flexible modulation schemes for achieving maximum bandwidth in a particular wireless environment, a robust and efficient MAC capable of supporting hundreds of users on 6-megahertz channels and frequency-division duplexing architecture for reduced interference. RangeStar Wireless
RangeStar Wireless Inc.’s Circularly Polarized 1575 MHz embedded antenna is designed to be integrated into a variety of global positioning system-enabled devices including automotive applications, personal digital assistants, laptop computers and cellular phones. RangeStar said CP technology allows the GPS system to arbitrarily be oriented with respect to satellite constellations while continuing to receive accurate positioning information. RangeStar also introduced its 2.4 GHz Omni Slot embedded antenna with Bluetooth technology designed specifically for notebook computer applications. Ophir RF introduced its 5041 amplifier for use in both EMC and communications applications. The AB amplifier features an auto-switching AC input so it can be used transparently in either a 120 VAC or 220 VAC environment, and a bandwidth of 20 megahertz to 1 gigahertz. In addition, the RF input power required to achieve the saturated output power of 120 watts is only 0 dBm. Available options include a micrprocessor-based controller complete with liquid crystal display, various communication port options, three phase power supply and the choice of front or rear panel connectors. Integrated radio frequency power products manufacturer Xemond Inc. released high-peak-power modules for third-generation cellular base stations covering the 2,110 MHz to 2,170 MHz band. The QPP-310 and QPP-311 modules are designed specifically for use with the Wideband Code Division Multiple Access air interface. Xemond claims the QPP-310 features more than 11 dB of gain and 13 dB input return loss along with drain efficiency exceeding 20 percent at 35W CDMA output. Proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits provider RF Micro Devices Inc. unveiled a complete single-mode Wideband Code Division Multiple Access chipset solution. Symmetricom Inc., a supplier of synchronization and timing solutions for the communications industry, launched its next-generation element manager, OSMF 5.0, for carrier-class synchronization and timing infrastructures. Designed for telecom and bandwidth providers from local to multi-national, OSMF is a scalable, open vendor-based and Web-based management platform that can both control and monitor the synchronization network. Additionally, OSMF enables telecom operators to manage a heterogeneous network via a Graphical User Interface with a consistent look and feel on any Web browser application, according to Symmetricom. The company also released its next-generation, carrier-class Building Integrated Timing Supply system, the TimeHub 5500, designed to help telecom and Internet service providers improve quality of service and increase bandwidth as they upgrade their networks. Symmetricom said the TimeHub architecture produces 140 protected outputs in a master shelf that occupies the same office space as old generation products, allowing service providers to install more equipment in their central offices.
