OXFORD, United Kingdom-Always a keen advocate of mobile Internet technology, Nokia has linked with Excite Europe to offer a directory search engine on the regular Internet. The service, which will be available through the main Nokia Web site and via Excite’s various pan-European sites, is aimed at providing mobile users with an Internet search function.
While many users of WAP services have complained bitterly about the lack of available sites, Ilkka Rainkinen, Nokia’s vice president of mobile applications, said content for the mobile Internet is growing faster than for the PC Internet in its early days, and the number of mobile sites is increasing at a tremendous rate.
“We have been closely tracking this growth, and there are currently more than 4 million wireless-compatible Web sites available,” he said.
