SAO PAULO, Brazil-Landline-operator Telemar is concluding meetings with the suppliers of GSM infrastructure for personal communications services (PCS) and should announce soon its short list. The Brazilian government will begin auctioning PCS licenses in January. Telemar has said it will participate in the auction.
According to reports, the companies selected for PCS equipment will also be suppliers of 600,000 wireless local loop (WLL) terminals. Telemar plans to buy another 400,000 terminals of another technology, either DECT, TDMA or CDMA.
Three or four suppliers will be included on a short list, which most likely will be chosen for the supply of switches, data platforms, subscriber registration and intelligent networks.
