CHICAGO—Thieves broke in to Brightstar Corp.’s Vernon Hills, Ill., warehouse May 5 and stole potentially millions of dollars in mobile equipment.
Brightstar distributes wireless products throughout the world.
Brightstar confirmed that a burglary took place, but declined to comment on how the perpetrators got in to the warehouse, or what, exactly was stolen. Industry sources say, however, that the thieves got away with as many as 30,000 new Motorola Inc. V60 phones, which retail for about $250 each.
Motorola spokeswoman Julie Cordua said she had not been made aware of the incident and could not comment.
Vernon Hills Police are conducting an investigation.
Brightstar’s U.S. headquarters are in Vernon Hills, and its corporate headquarters are in Miami, Fla.
