BEIJING-According to a report in the 5 November issue of China Daily’s Business Weekly, three operators are likely to adopt three different third-generation (3G) technologies in China.
China Telecom is likely to adopt the home-grown TD-SCDMA standard if its succeeds in getting a 3G license sometime next year.
China Unicom would upgrade its CDMA network to the cdma2000 standard.
Rival China Mobile, which runs the world’s largest GSM network, is expected to adopt W-CDMA, as well as TD-SCDMA, as both technologies are compatible and complementary. TD-SCDMA would be more suitable in high-traffic areas.
