Triton PCS acquires licenses from Lafayette

BERWYN, Pa.-Triton PCS Holdings Inc. said it acquired 12 personal communications service licenses from Lafayette Communications and paid approximately $28.1 million to the Federal Communications Commission to retire debt associated with the acquired licenses.

Triton noted the 12 basic trading area licenses consist of 10 megahertz covering South Carolina and parts of Virginia and Georgia. The carrier added that the licenses cover approximately 4.3 million potential customers and overlap its current coverage areas.

In a separate transaction, Triton said Lafayette acquired its entire 39-percent ownership interest in Lafayette and that Triton no longer had an interest or relationship with Lafayette.

Financial terms of the transactions were not released.
