CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-First Avenue Networks, holder of an expansive portfolio of licensed spectrum, and wireless Internet service provider WindChannel Communications have partnered to build out WindChannel’s licensed fixed wireless network.
Through their agreement, WindChannel is leasing spectrum from First Avenue to build out a hybrid network in six markets in North and South Carolina. In addition to First Avenue’s 39 GHz licensed spectrum, the hybrid network will use fiber, 5.8 GHz unlicensed spectrum and 802.16 WiMax equipment.
“The ability to cost effectively utilize licensed spectrum for numerous applications throughout our network gives us extreme flexibility to better meet the needs of our customers,” said Randy Choplin, chairman and chief executive officer of WindChannel.
