BERKELEY, Calif.-MobiTV reported that rural wireless operator Midwest Wireless has launched its live streaming television service on the carrier’s CDMA-based network. The MobiTV service currently provides access to more than 20 channels, including MSNBC, ABC News Now, NBC Mobile, Fox Sports, Discovery, The Learning Channel, CSPAN-1 and CSPAN-2.
The service costs $9 per month and is available on a pair of handsets-the LG VX6000 and Audiovox 8900.
“With our customers enjoying increasingly mobile lifestyles, we are happy to be able to provide them with this innovative technology that we believe is the first stage in delivering fully functional live TV to a wireless device,” said Dennis Miller, president and chief executive officer of Midwest Wireless.
Sprint PCS launched the MobiTV service on its network last year, while Cingular Wireless L.L.C. reported last month the availability of MobiTV on a select number of handsets.
