TOKYO-Two international carriers announced plans for a roaming agreement for Wi-Fi hot spots.
Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo Inc. signed a public wireless local area network inter-roaming agreement with Swedish mobile operator TeliaSonera AB. Starting Feb. 9 DoCoMo’s Wi-Fi subscribers will be able to use the WLAN services of TeliaSonera, in addition to similar services currently available in more than 30 other countries. TeliaSonera’s customers will be able to access DoCoMo’s hot spots in Japan.
DoCoMo’s Wi-Fi subscribers will be charged roaming fees of 38 cents per minute in addition to the regular basic fee for DoCoMo’s service.
The agreement includes more than 570 locations in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, France, the United States, the United Kingdom and Thailand. The agreement is DoCoMo’s first Wi-Fi roaming agreement.
