Sprint PCS to use Harris microwave technology

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.-Sprint PCS said it has chosen Harris Corp. to provide its network with point-to-point microwave technology.

The carrier signed a four-year deal to receive Harris’ next-generation microwave radio known as TRuepoint.

Sprint said it will use it for CDMA backhaul and EV-DO services, which include voice and data applications.

“Deploying TRuepoint to backhaul its service traffic to the broader network enables Sprint to avoid leased lines (such as T1 or T3 lines), which have both limited capacity and high cost,” said the carrier.
