GERMANTOWN, Md.-Cognio announced enhancements to its line of spectrum analysis tools, which the company says enable wireless Internet service providers, municipal Wi-Fi operators and hot-spot providers to increase bandwidth, reduce clutter and increase security of outdoor Wi-Fi environments. The cognitive spectrum analysis company said its new product offering includes a temperature hardened sensor designed to enhance the management of wireless spectrum in public spaces or outdoor venues. “In wireless networks, it’s a fact that if you don’t actively manage your physical layer, you cannot rely on your wireless network to perform well and be secure,” said Thomas McPherson, president and chief executive of Cognio. “Cognio’s tools provide the fundamental capabilities WISPs, muni operators and I.T. managers need to keep their wireless spectrum secure and running optimally to support their growing list of wireless productivity initiatives.” The company said its Intelligent Spectrum Management System helps prevent outages caused by frequency hoppers, security threats caused by jammers and overall downtime, all of which are caused by unapproved devices inadvertently occupying key service channels. The company also announced the appointment of a new senior management team, including McPherson as its chief executive.
