SCHAUMBURG, Ill.—Motorola Inc. says it’s combining its Networks and Government & Enterprise Mobility Solutions business units into one entity for the sake of cost savings and efficiency.
The company named Greg Brown, current president of Motorola’s Government & Enterprise Mobility Solutions, to lead the new business. Adrian Nemcek, leader of the Networks business for the past five years, is set to retire later this year.
“This reorganization will allow us to strengthen our position in providing end-to-end network infrastructure solutions to private, public and enterprise customers worldwide,” said Ed Zander, chairman and chief executive officer of Motorola. “The new business also will leverage key current and next-generation technologies across those various market segments.”
Motorola said its first quarter results will still account for the two divisions separately. Afterwards, the company plans to report results in three segments: Mobile Devices, Networks & Enterprise and Connected Home Solutions.
Similar reorganizing took place last year at Nokia Corp. and Lucent Technologies Inc. The trend is likely to continue as convergence technologies blur the lines between wireless and wireline networks.
