Alltel debuts kid-friendly mobile Web filter

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—Alltel Corp. has made a free mobile Web content filter available to parents to help them keep their children from accessing inappropriate content through wireless phones.

The content filter can be added to any Alltel wireless account by calling a toll-free technical support number. Account holders can use the filter to block access to chat rooms and use parental controls to “block a handset’s ability to search the broader mobile Web while leaving it with access to family-friendly sites approved by Alltel,” according to the operator.

“Wireless customers are increasingly using their handsets to surf the Internet, and at Alltel we recognize that we have a responsibility to help parents protect their children from inappropriate content,” said Scott Ford, president and chief executive officer for Alltel. “While no content filter is perfect, the service … will go a long way toward ensuring a more family-friendly mobile Web for our customers and their children.”
