ATLANTA—Boost Mobile L.L.C. users can exchange cash electronically for prepaid calling minutes at various locations, due to a recent arrangement with CheckFreePay. Boost is a subsidiary of Sprint Nextel Corp.
CheckFreePay is a business unit of CheckFree Corp. and offers consumers the ability to make in-person payments for utility, credit-card and wireless bills, often with a cash transaction. The service claims more than 11,000 locations at check cashing, retail and grocery stores. In Boost’s case, customers can use cash to instantly recharge their allowance of wireless minutes, rather than rely on a credit card—which Boost’s young, ethnic target market may not have ready access to.
