LONDON—It appears users in the United Kingdom like Chocolate as much as their South Korean counterparts.
LG Electronics Co. Ltd. said it sold more than 1 million of its slim, slider Chocolate phones worldwide, and British retailers are having trouble keeping the handsets in stock. LG’s Chocolate phones debuted in South Korea last November—selling 300,000 units in four months—before hitting the U.K. market last month.
“The scale of success after just one month of sale in the U.K. has surpassed our expectations,” said Simon Hahm, president of LG’s European mobile communications business division.
The South Korean handset maker hopes to use the chocolate-colored KG800 to gain market share in Western Europe; the company also plans to release the phone in China. A modified version is being prepared for the U.S. market.
